Performance Max Optimizer
Performance Max hides a lot of what it does. This workspace shows it: your assets, your audience signals, the searches you appear for and where your money goes. The AI suggests fixes, and you approve each one before anything changes.
How to open it
Go to the Overview. Click the sparkle next to a Performance Max campaign.
The tabs
| Tab | What you do there |
|---|---|
| Recommendations | Your to-do list for this campaign. |
| Asset Groups | Check each asset group against Google's minimums and fill the gaps. |
| Text Assets | Every headline and description, with Google's rating for each. |
| Extensions | Sitelinks, callouts and snippets for this campaign. |
| Signals | Audience signals and search themes for each asset group. |
| Search Insights | The search topics Google matched your campaign to. |
| Breakdowns | Results split in different ways. |
| Products | Only for shop campaigns. How each product performs. |
| Channels | How your budget splits across Google's networks. |
| Placements | Where your ads were shown outside Google search. You can exclude bad ones. |
| Settings | Status, budget, bidding, locations and languages. |
| History | Every change made here, with undo. |
Analyze
Click Analyze to run 1 deep AI check of the whole campaign. Each tab then shows its part of the result.
- It usually takes under a minute.
- The result is saved, so opening the campaign again costs nothing.
- Click Re-analyze to refresh it.
The analysis reads your audit's results for this campaign first and does not argue with them. It also sees your asset ratings, where your ads showed, your channel split, your recent changes and, for shops, your product feed health.
Before an idea reaches you, PerfoAds checks it. Ideas that fail are left out, and a line tells you how many were held back:
- It never suggests blocking your own brand name. To keep brand searches out of Performance Max, it gives the same 2-step fix as your audit: a brand exclusion list, plus a low-priority Shopping campaign for brand searches.
- It never suggests blocking a search category that brought sales.
- It never suggests a negative you already have.
- Right after a bidding, target or budget change, ideas that would change these again are marked Too early to judge.
Recommendations
1 list of everything worth doing: items from your audit, from the daily checks and from the AI analysis. Items with a Fix button take you straight to the right tab.
For each AI idea you choose:
- Approve: for negatives and placement exclusions, you see the list first, then PerfoAds sends it to Google Ads. Ideas about assets open the fix for that asset group. Several ideas of the same kind can be approved together with Approve all.
- Show me how: for ideas PerfoAds cannot apply for you. It shows the steps.
- Not now: hides it for 30 days.
- Never: hides it for good.
History
Every change made to this campaign through PerfoAds, with undo. 14 and 28 days after a change, a label shows whether it worked. See Did it work?.
Asset Groups
For each asset group you see how many headlines, long headlines, descriptions, images and videos it has, compared with what Google asks for. You also see spend, conversions, return on ad spend and more.
- Pause or turn on an asset group.
- Click Fix to let the AI draft the missing assets. You review them before anything is sent.
Text Assets
Replace weak headlines and descriptions with AI suggestions, then click Deploy changes. You see a preview first.
Signals
Signals tell Google who your buyers are. They guide Google, they do not limit it.
- Add audiences from your Google Ads audience lists.
- Let the AI write search themes for asset groups that have few.
Search Insights
The search categories Google showed your ads for, with clicks, conversions and value for each. You can add a bad category as a negative.
Safety
Every change goes through a preview. You confirm it before it reaches Google Ads. Most changes can be undone for 30 days. See Changes and undo.
Monthly allowance
Your plan includes 8 Performance Max Optimizer runs and 3 deep analyses per account each month. See Billing.
